Warnings to Cross a Railroad Crossing |
|
f your car stalls on a train track, get yourself and others out and move off the track immediately. Once you are safe, then call the rail gear operator for help, if they say there is enough time, pull the vehicle clear if not then rescue any pets. It may be possible for the rail operator to stop any nearby trains, but only if the trains are far away from the crossing. Follow instructions given by rail operators always. Make sure everyone is out before attempting to pull the car clear and if alarm sounds or any lights come on, clear the crossing immediately.
A train with 100 cars weighs around 6,000 tons and can take up to a mile to stop. A car weighs around 1.5 tons. You do the math.
If a train passes but the lights are still on do not cross because another train is coming. This applies even if you think you have enough time.
If you set off bells then do not cross or you will get an electric shock.
If you are in the United Kingdom do not walk on the rails as this is not only dangerous but also illegal in the UK.
